HIGHLY ACCURATE AND PERSONALIZED PREDICTIONS -- Univfy IVF Prediction Tests are the only validated IVF prediction tests. Univfy delivers highly accurate, personalized predictions of IVF success by using clinical factors, identified by published scientific research to be the most important in predicting IVF success. Clinical factors used by Univfy tests include:
- Ovarian reserve (e.g. Day 3 FSH, AFC, or AMH): Ovarian reserve is among the top two to three predictors of IVF success and live birth outcomes in every prediction model that Univfy has developed, providing a high degree of personalization in patients’ test results.
- Both male and female health data: IVF success is impacted by factors from both the woman and her male partner (or donor sperm). Univfy tests use male health data, including male age and sperm count, to further improve and personalize the prediction of IVF success.
- Specific clinical fertility diagnoses (e.g. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, anovulation).
SCIENTIFIC VALIDATION -- Univfy IVF Prediction Tests are externally validated according to established standards for the predictive sciences, and our performance metrics are published in top peer-reviewed clinical research journals.
- Univfy measures the performance of each prediction model by established standards, including predictive power, the area-under-the-curve in a receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis, utilization parameters such as reclassification.
- Univfy IVF Prediction Tests have been validated using data from a patient group, that is different and separate from the data patient group used to build the model.
- Univfy IVF predictions were shown to be over a 1,000 times more accurate in comparison to age based models.

USING A PATIENT'S MOST CURRENT HEALTH DATA TO PERSONALIZE COUNSELING AT KEY STAGES IN FERTILITY TREATMENT -- Univfy IVF Prediction Tests enables you to use your patients' most relevant data available to provide treatment recommendations about when to start IVF, when to stop IUI and start IVF, whether to do another IVF after a failed IVF treatment, and to evaluate their personalized risk of multiple births when considering elective single embryo transfer.
See the next section for a description of each Univfy IVF Prediction Test.
Univfy has developed three personalized IVF prediction tests to help predict your patient’s chances of IVF success. The tests, taken online, are:
- Univfy PreIVFTM – For women thinking about doing their first IVF treatment, Univfy PreIVF analyzes their and their partners’ health data to give a personalized probability of first-IVF treatment success.
- Univfy PredictIVF® – For women who have had one or more unsuccessful IVF treatments, Univfy PredictIVF analyzes their health data, including measures of IVF treatment response and embryo quality, to give a personalized probability of success in the next IVF treatment.
- Univfy IVFsingle – For patients concerned about their multiple birth risk from IVF, Univfy IVFsingle analyzes their chances of having multiple births from IVF if more than one embryo is transferred and can help decide whether to transfer a single embryo. (This test is currently only available to IVF clinics. An online consumer version is coming soon.)
Science behind Univfy
What is the predictive technology behind Univfy?
Univfy’s predictive technology originated from research conducted at Stanford University starting in 2005. Since then, Univfy has collaborated with 20 leading IVF clinics in the U.S., Europe, and Asia to advance its predictive technology.
Univfy developed its robust IVF Prediction Tests with data from more than 100,000 IVF cycles and 500,000 embryos from an ethnically-diverse patient base originating from 30 countries across these three continents. Univfy further validated (or tested) results with data from an independent group of IVF cycles. Committed to transparency, Univfy has been publishing its rigorous methods and research findings in top-tier, peer-reviewed research publications since 2008, including PLOS, the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences, and Fertility & Sterility. For links to all of Univfy’s publications, click here.
Univfy PreIVF applies advanced statistical methods to assess many clinical factors specific to your patient and her male partner (or the patient only, if using donor sperm) and predicts her chances of having a baby from her first IVF treatment.
Factors include her body mass index, age, reproductive history, and serum Day 3 FSH. Optional information for Univfy PreIVF test includes her clinical fertility diagnoses, her male partner's sperm count, and her antral follicle count (AFC). Taking the Univfy PreIVF test through the Univfy IVF Success Program will also allow her to retake the test over a 12-month period with updated health data.
If your patient has done one or more IVF treatments, Univfy PredictIVF uses data from her past IVF treatment response, including amount of hormonal drugs used, number of embryos and quality, age, and endometrial thickness, to predict her chances of having a baby in her next IVF treatment.
Though most relevant fertility factors are already known to be associated with IVF outcomes, Univfy is the first to apply a combination of powerful statistical methods, including the boosted tree method, to analyze these factors simultaneously to provide a more accurate and personalized prediction.
Univfy uses "boosted tree," an advanced subtype of “regression tree” analysis, a statistical method used to develop prediction models in many fields. This model uses the answers to a specific series of questions to determine which set of questions to "branch off to" next. The advanced “boosting” method generates and uses a large collection of simple regression trees, rather than relying on one tree. Each tree is assigned a weight based on its performance in the training data, so that the model can recognize "weaker" and "stronger" trees and utilize them accordingly to make the best prediction. A large database of relevant cases allows us to "learn" regression trees with solid prediction power.
Univfy IVF Prediction Tests are the ONLY online tests that use many types of reproductive health data specific to your patient and her partner, including whether she has done IVF before and the outcomes, to be analyzed together with her age, to provide her personalized IVF success rate. Other IVF calculators use age-based estimates that are not validated or do not use health data tailored to the individual.
Aging ovaries are the biological driving force behind decreased fertility as a woman’s chronological age advances. But each woman's ovaries age at a different pace, and many factors other than chronological age affect her IVF success rate
We measure the power of our prediction models in different ways. For example, we measure our tests’ prediction power and ability to distinguish patients with different probabilities of IVF treatment success, versus conventional average IVF success rates based on age alone. Also, we measure how useful a test would be in day-to-day fertility practice by computing the percentage of patients that would receive a different predicted probability from using Univfy tests, compared to predictions based on age alone. Finally, we measure and report the prediction error of each test.
- The Univfy PreIVF test has a prediction error of 1.5%, which means that most of our Univfy PreIVF predictions fall within 1.5% above or below the probability that is predicted.
- Over 50% of patients analyzed by Univfy tests had higher probabilities of IVF success than based on age alone.;
- We analyze multiple factors in patients’ fertility profile - including age, BMI, ovarian reserve tests, semen analysis, and more.
Univfy generates its prediction models from historical data sets with updates. Like all other methods of providing IVF success rates, it is not possible to develop prediction tests based on data from the current year, because live birth outcomes are typically not available until the following year.
Univfy has built collaborative research partnerships with internationally renowned fertility researchers and clinical experts. This global initiative helps Univfy broaden the scope and increase the impact of our fertility research. The ethnic diversity of our patient data strengthens the predictive power of our tests. Offering Univfy IVF Prediction Tests to Your Patients
How do I offer Univfy IVF Prediction Tests to my patients?
Univfy offers two ways for your patients to get a Univfy report. Your patients can take the Univfy PreIVFTM or Univfy PredictIVF® test online. The online Univfy tests are developed based on data from collaborating IVF centers. Or if your center would like to participate in a Univfy®-powered IVF Refund Program*, contact us.
For more, please email email@example.com, or call 1-877-9-UNIVFY (1-877-986-4839), Mon – Fri, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Pacific.
Univfy PreIVF is for patients under age 43, who have not done IVF before and want to know their chances of having a baby from their first IVF treatment using their own eggs.
Univfy PredictIVF is for patients under age 45 and under age 43 at the time of their first IVF treatment, who have had one to four IVF treatments and want to know their chances of having a baby from their next IVF treatment, using their own eggs and embryo transfer into their own uterus. Their most recent IVF treatment with their own eggs should be within the last 18 months, and their Day 3 FSH blood test should be under 14 U/L.
Immediately. Once your patient completes and submits the Univfy PreIVF or Univfy PredictIVF test online, she will receive personalized results instantly. She should save the test report to her computer or print it. Her test results will remain available online for 90 days.
Approximately three to six months. Since ovarian aging impacts a patient's chance of success with IVF, the Univfy PreIVF or Univfy PredictIVF test result is meaningful for three to six months after the test run date. If patients have new or updated health data, they can retake their test to stay current. Their test results are also available on their Univfy dashboard for 90 days. They can access them by logging in to their account with their secure password.
Univfy does not give refunds, so patients should review their information carefully before hitting the Submit button online. Purchase of a Univfy IVF Prediction Test constitutes acceptance of our Terms of Service, so users should please be sure to read and understand them. Information Required to Take Univfy IVF Prediction Tests
What information is required to take Univfy IVF Prediction Tests?
Please click here to see the complete set of information needed to take each of the Prediction Test.
Univfy is not saying that semen analysis is optional in a fertility workup, but only that it is optional for a patient to enter semen analysis results into Univfy IVF Prediction Tests. Sometimes, patients may want to know their own personalized IVF success probability, and sometimes their male partner might not have done their semen analysis yet. Patients can run the Univfy PreIVF test without the semen analysis to get a better understanding of their IVF success probability. Then, when the semen analysis is available, they can take another Univfy PreIVF test to update their IVF success prediction.
Univfy is not saying that AMH and AFC are optional in a fertility diagnostic workup or in helping the doctor determine the type of IVF protocol to use. But it is optional for a patient to enter these results into a Univfy IVF Prediction Test. That’s because the Univfy research team has found and reported that Day 3 FSH has the most predictive value. AFC can add to the predictive power. But many fertility clinics do not offer AFC. Univfy's objective is to use tests that are widely or universally used by all fertility clinics, whenever possible.
Our research has found that the predictive value of AMH can be inconsistent across clinics. That does not mean that AMH is not useful for other medical determinations, but it may be more limited in predicting the probability of live birth success. One possible reason is the inter-laboratory and inter-assay error range of AMH.
We have provided the following FAQ to patients: Univfy asks patients to enter a Day 3 FSH that has been already reviewed by an Ob/Gyn or fertility provider. Univfy IVF Prediction Tests do not attempt to do what the provider would do to determine whether a Day 3 FSH is valid.
Data pertaining to endometriosis and other causes of infertility were in the data that the Univfy researchers analyzed. We found that some of these factors did not provide a unique, additional contribution to predicting IVF success probability. The information may be very important for making a fertility diagnosis and treatment plan or for counseling, but Univfy IVF Prediction Tests focus on whether the information has an impact on IVF success probabilities. Prediction is very different from determining the cause of having high or low probability. For example, severe endometriosis may be the cause of poor prognosis due to damage to the ovaries, but if this damage is already reflected in poor ovarian reserve and high Day 3 FSH, severe endometriosis may not provide additional predictive value.
Counseling Your Patients
How do I explain the result of a Univfy IVF Prediction Test to a patient?
Univfy's testing tools provide a patient's personalized probability of having a baby from her first IVF treatment (using the Univfy PreIVF test) or a subsequent IVF cycle (using Univfy PredictIVF), or her probability of having multiple birth from her current IVF treatment (Univfy IVFsingle). Her test results also describe her chances compared with other patients’ chances of success. For instance, if your patient's chance of having a baby from a first IVF treatment is 40.6%, according to her Univfy PreIVF test report, it will also indicate whether she is in the top, middle, or lower percentile of women undergoing a first IVF treatment.
Univfy IVF Prediction Tests, which provide high quality, personalized predictions, are support tools, not medical advice or recommendations. Other medical, social, or financial factors may affect your patient's probability of success, as well as her tolerance of physically and emotionally demanding treatment. You, as the provider, would continue to make recommendations based on your clinical assessment.
It is possible that you believe that your patient’s probability of IVF success is higher than the number predicted by the Univfy IVF Test report. This might be an indication that your patient has some positive health factor that is not analyzed by Univfy’s prediction tests. It may also be possible that you believe that your treatment protocol or your clinic’s services provide higher chances of IVF success (see below). In either case, Univfy IVF Prediction Tests offer a rigorously proven and validated starting point for your counseling. Your patient would be interested to hear about methods that give her better chances than the prediction that is analyzed for her.
If you believe that your treatment protocol or your clinic’s services provide higher chances of IVF success, you are welcome to have Univfy analyze your clinic’s de-identified data and provide you with your clinic-specific adjustments, which you can offer to your patients (see section on customization below).
A patient may disagree with your explanation of Univfy IVF Prediction Tests, just as she can disagree with any of your recommendations. You, the provider, may also disagree with Univfy's prediction. In any of these instances, you can explain the logic of your assessment and recommendation based on your experience as a practicing fertility provider. Univfy can offer an objective second opinion, backed by the only validated prediction model developed from a multicenter dataset. But in the end, the patient is free to decide for herself, as always.
Customize Univfy IVF Prediction Tests for Your Clinic and Patients
Which Univfy IVF Prediction Tests can be customized to a clinic?
Univfy offers customized predictive analytics services to providers to meet the needs of individual IVF centers. Please visit Univfy For Providers and the Univfy-Powered IVF Refund Program to learn more.
Univfy has successfully custom-developed all three prediction models - Univfy PreIVF, Univfy PredictIVF, and Univfy IVFsingle - and validated them for individual clinics. Prediction tests may be developed for other outcomes as well. Univfy has historically focused on building models to predict live birth outcomes, as well as euploidy to assist in PGS counseling. However, Univfy welcomes the opportunity to develop models that predict other outcomes, such as the number of gestational sacs or positive serum HCG results, tailored to meet the specific needs of your clinic.
Please request a free consultation with our co-founder and CEO Dr. Mylene Yao to discuss your clinic’s specific needs.
Univfy can develop customized tests for any clinic, regardless of the size and volume. Developing a customized model involves the clinic providing a minimum required set of de-identified data, which is then processed. Univfy generates and validates a customized model based on the variables available to that clinic. The exact process will depend on your clinic’s needs, and options range from semi-customized to fully-customized prediction modeling.
Univfy will also provide a customized consultation on how to apply personalized IVF prediction tests to enhance care and to gain new insight into your practice. Depending on the degree of customization, this process can take four to eight weeks. We also help our clinic partners launch the tests in their clinics by providing instructions on registration and user account set-up, in addition to a training session via Web conference.
