This position is full time. Univfy is based in Los Altos, California. Our team is currently working virtually from home and willingness to collaborate virtually and on site is required.

About the Role
As a Data Scientist at Univfy, this is your opportunity to make an immediate real-world impact. You will report to the co-founder/CEO and work with our Data Science team. You will perform critical functions including developing, maintaining, and executing ML Ops, data processing, and modeling pipelines. You will also be responsible for generating and investigating ideas for innovative technological solutions to increase the quality of the Univfy products and platform, primarily focused on structured health data. You will work with our interdisciplinary team comprising of lead architects, web developers, data scientists, client services teams, program managers, and QA teams to build client-facing solutions.

You have strong knowledge and work experience in the application of machine learning and statistics to life sciences or healthcare problems. You enjoy coding and problem solving. You are motivated, adaptable, diligent, detail-oriented, creative, and can work well in a collaborative team environment or independently.

Requirements

  • Experience with ML Ops including deploying highly parallel AI/ML modeling services, distributed cloud computing and related QA, etc. in AWS or other cloud server environment.

  • B.A. in a quantitative field, such as biomedical informatics, biostatistics, statistics, computer science, math, or engineering

  • 2-3 years of equivalent experience with quantitative research, data analysis, and independent projects

  • Strong, fluent command of supervised learning concepts and algorithms such as bias-variance tradeoff, regularization, cross-validation, generalized linear models, ensembles, gradient boosting machine, kernel methods vs. Bayesian methods, etc.

  • Proficiency with Python

  • Proficiency with R

  • Proficiency with RDBMS (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)

  • Development experience in AI/ML.

  • A track record of multiple data science / machine learning projects driven to completion.

  • Prior work experience in an interdisciplinary team, preferably in both scientific research settings and in prototyping and production environments.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Analytical thinking skills, creative problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Explore complex data sets to generate hypotheses for testing, select methods, design, and run analyses, interpret results, and present findings verbally and in writing.

  • Translate prediction models into a production environment, including drafting product design documents based on processed data and model results.

  • Perform critical functions in our workflow, including data cleaning, processing, versioning, analysis, model building, validation, light database management, publishing, and review of live products.

  • Develop and maintain data processing & modeling pipelines that improve internal workflows.

  • Apply, update, and improve established processes and protocols to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • Document code and processes and participate in code/protocol reviews to ensure robustness and reproducibility in our applications/workflows.

  • Document and archive analysis and programming work to ensure a complete audit trail.

  • Prepare summary analytics reports on healthcare, business, and other types of data for internal and client communications.

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional project team of lead architects, web developers, data scientists, client services personnel, program managers, and QA personnel on technical aspects of product and customized implementations.

  • Participate in the implementation of products that are reliable, maintainable, and efficient, with an emphasis on adhering to regulatory requirements and protecting patient data privacy

  • Participate in the review of customer specifications, verifying that all requirements can be implemented in the required timeframe.

  • Generate ideas for innovative technological solutions to increase the quality of Univfy products and platform.

  • Identify and assist with the implementation of improvements for the data-to-implementation processes.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Services Team with monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving issues reported on production systems.

  • Assist with quality assurance testing as required.

  • Willing to collaborate in client meetings and projects across time zones (US, Europe, and Asia) as needed.

  • Work with U.S. and international collaborators to advance the global fertility knowledge base, in the form of scientific publications.

  • Occasional domestic or international travel in client meetings may be required.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Healthcare or biomedical experience

  • Proficiency with deploying services, building data pipelines, etc. in AWS or other cloud server environment.

  • Product development experience in digital health, healthcare AI, AI/ML.

  • Prior product experience includes regulatory compliance, FDA submission and/or EU MDD/MDR certification for digital health tools, ISO 13485, ISO 62304, ISO 14971

  • Prior experience supporting/overseeing compliance with HIPAA and/or GDPR
